I am a follower of Jesus, a husband and a father, and a creative (author, speaker, worship leader and photographer). For a long time, I had those in the wrong order.
You see, I've been a worship leader and teaching pastor in the local church for 20 years. I've also started a few creative businesses. In fact, I used to spend my time coaching and consulting and speaking on building profitable and sustainable creative businesses, until it turned out that I was more interested in "looking successful," instead of actually "being successful." I was really good at the looking successful thing... really good, but little of it was profitable, and none of it was sustainable. Let me tell you, that's a bad place to be. You make really bad choices when you’re that far from where you’re supposed to be. I know, because I did.
As I'm sure you can imagine, it all fell apart. All. Of. It.
So, after wrecking my business, almost destroying my family, and creating enough havoc around me to leave more than a few people with scars, God put me in the penalty box. Literally. A 6 x 9 box known as a prison cell, to be precise. Yeah, that part was pretty bad, but God used it to reshape me, into the man He made me to be. He helped me recognize what He was doing in, for and through me, according to His purpose and plan.
The truth is, He has given me a lot, like a beautiful family, and a passion for seeing people discover hope and grace in a lost and lonely world. I’ve stopped worrying so much about details, and making things happen, and instead I’m content that He invites me to be a part of the story He is writing in and through my life. Maybe you can relate to part of that story. If so, I invite you to stick around a while and discover grace, hope, and a God who loves you beyond what you can comprehend, in ways you’ve never imagined.
Now, I spend my time trying to be obedient to how He's using all of this for His glory. In addition, I love sharing my life with my family - my wife Beth, our amazing daughters Madison and Macy, and our sons Maxwell, and Mason.
