What I Use

I get asked a lot about the tech I actually use on a regular basis. I’m not entirely sure why that’s so interesting, but if you’re someone for whom it is, here you go:

I use an M4 MacBook Air, with an 10-core GPU, 32 GB Memory, and a 2TB SSD. It’s fantastic. It’s literally the best computer I’ve ever owned.

The MacBook Air is connected to the CalDigit T3 thunderbolt hub.

Currently, I’m using an Apple Studio Display (the new version) with nano-texture.

My primary external storage is a G-Tech 10TB USB 3 drive. I also have a WD Passport as a Time Machine backup.

Synology sent me a DS720 to review, but honestly, I haven’t even had time to set it up yet.

I type on a Keychron K8, but I’m planning to replace it with a K3. Brown switches.

I’m using a Logitech MX3 Mac version (just Bluetooth, no dongle).

I also work about half the time on an 11-inch M5 iPad Pro with the Apple Pencil. I also have the Magic Keyboard, but it usually stays in my backpack. It’s an iPad, and I like using it as an iPad, though I’ll pull out the keyboard when I want to get some focused writing done.

My primary listening device is a pair of AirPods Pro 3, which are literally in my ears most of the day. I also have a set of AirPods Max, which I also love, but don’t use quite as often.

For monitoring, I use a pair of Sony WH-1000XM4. I’m also a big fan of the Bowers & Wilkins PX7, though I primarily use those for traveling.

I upgraded to an iPhone 17 Pro this year, but I love the iPhone Air.

I have a Asus ExpertBook for anything Windows related, but honestly, while the Asus is fine, I can’t stand having to do anything Windows related.

I shoot with a Nikon Z6ii. That said, honestly, the D750 is my favorite camera ever made.

I record audio using a Shure SM7B, connected via a Focusrite 2i3.

I edit video using Final Cut Pro, and podcasts using Logic Pro. I edit photos using Lightroom (though I’m still an Aperture fan at heart).

I write most of the time using Ulysses. I organize my task list using Things. I keep track of my calendar using Fantastical. I’m a fan of both Safari and Brave. Friends don’t let friends use Chrome. TextExpander and Pastebot save my backside on an almost daily basis.
